WHO'S COMING
LOADING GUEST LIST...
CLASS OF 1986
Lady Gaga
Also turns 40. Gave us iconic bangers. Then gave us Joker 2. Not every risk pays off.
Drake
Also turns 40. Still writing songs about his feelings. Ageing gracefully was never the plan. Dating younger absolutely was.
Usain Bolt
Also turns 40. Fastest man alive... for now. Gout Gout is already warming up and Bolt can hear the footsteps.
Megan Fox
Also turns 40. Transformers did a lot of heavy lifting. Been coasting ever since.
Robert Pattinson
Also turns 40. Once a shimmering vampire. Now just a guy who needs better lighting.
Lindsay Lohan
Also turns 40. Mean Girls was elite. The rest has been a long victory lap no one asked for.
Aliens 1986
A sequel that outdid the original. Rare. Almost suspicious.
Top Gun 1986
Fighter jets, egos, and beach volleyball. Plot was optional. Vibes were not.
Labyrinth 1986
David Bowie in tights running a fever dream. Somehow still less confusing than most modern movies.
Ferris Bueller's Day Off
A masterclass in skipping responsibility and being rewarded for it. Inspiring and deeply unrealistic.
Little Shop of Horrors
A plant that eats people and demands constant attention. Basically every high maintenance relationship ever.
Platoon 1986
Won Best Picture. Intense, gritty, and emotionally draining. Not exactly a feel good watch.
True Colors - Cyndi Lauper
A timeless anthem about being yourself. Whether people like it or not.
Papa Don't Preach - Madonna
Still on playlists 40 years later. Unlike most people from 1986.
West End Girls - Pet Shop Boys
Cool, detached, slightly confusing. Like someone trying to explain crypto.
Walk Like an Egyptian - The Bangles
A whole song built around a weird walk. Somehow still iconic.
Sledgehammer - Peter Gabriel
Legendary music video. Still weird. Still brilliant.
Walk This Way - Run DMC
Hip hop and rock collide. Should not have worked. Absolutely did.
The Nintendo NES
Required physical violence to function. Still more reliable than today's tech.
Chernobyl April 1986
A disaster with consequences that lasted decades. And effectively killed nuclear power for a generation. Cheers for that.
Halley's Comet
Shows up once every 75 years. Rare, impressive, and gone before you fully appreciate it.
The Legend of Zelda
A gold cartridge and a game that never aged. Unlike the people who played it first.
Space Shuttle Challenger
A defining and tragic moment in history. Probably should not have televised that one to every student in America.
Microsoft Goes Public
Bill Gates builds a trillion dollar empire. Still taking jobs to this day.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Things you were afraid to ask. We weren't afraid to answer.
Why is the party on the 29th if his birthday is the 31st?
▼
Thomas's mum usually forgets his birthday, so he figured if he had the party on hers, she might finally remember. Playing the long game.
Do I actually have to bring a gift?
▼
No gifts please. Thomas has nowhere to put anything. His house is already full of things he bought and forgot about. A pack of Pokemon "Ascended Heroes" cards wouldn't go astray though.
What should I wear?
▼
Anything you like, no dress code. Just make sure it's acceptable for Pennant Hills Pub. Realistically, the only person who may need to adjust their outfit is Roo.
Is 40 really that bad?
▼
It's not that bad. Thomas can now afford all the toys he couldn't have as a child. Unfortunately, the toys are just significantly more expensive.
Will Thomas be doing a speech?
▼
Yes. Most likely too long. It will include updates on his marathon, his YouTube channel, and he may sneak in something about his family if there's time. Pack snacks.
What time will Thomas actually call it a night?
▼
Thomas can walk home from the venue, so technically all night. In reality, he will still claim he's a night owl while actively thinking about bed from 9:30.
Will there be dancing?
▼
No. Thomas has refused to allow a dance floor. This decision has been made in everyone's best interest.
How many drinks will Thomas have?
▼
He will say "just a couple." Some say 40 to 50, followed by being gently placed in a hedge by a close friend. Time will tell.
What are we NOT allowed to bring up?
▼
Only one topic is off limits: Thomas's older brother Ben. Do not talk to Ben about AI or Claude Code unless you want your ears to fall off.
Can I bring children?
▼
Yes, there's a playground and Thomas's kids will be there. They will be sent home at 8pm before they completely derail the night.
Will there be food?
▼
Yes, food is supplied. No, Thomas will not be catering to dietary requirements. This is a 40th, not a wedding. If you have specific needs, please bring a backup snack like a responsible adult.
Is there a bar tab?
▼
Yes, there is a bar tab. No, it is not unlimited. When it runs out, we all discover who Thomas's real friends are.
When do I need to RSVP by?
▼
1 August 2026. That is the date. It is on the invite. It is on this website. If you can't get your act together by then, it's probably best you don't come. Jokes. Mostly. RSVP by August 1st.
Any final advice before attending?
▼
Tell Thomas he looks young. Tell him the music he likes is still cool. Agree with whatever he says about Diet Coke. If he starts explaining something he heard on a podcast, just nod along. He means well. He's 40. He's doing his best. We all are.
